Therapy for Lack of Purpose and Motivation, Online in New York, Massachusetts, and Florida
I offer online therapy for adults in New York, Massachusetts, and Florida who feel they've lost their drive or their sense of purpose. My practice is based in Albany, New York, and sessions are by secure video.
When you've lost your drive
Maybe you used to know what you wanted, and now you're drifting. The days get done, but nothing feels like it's pulling you forward. Work gives you little satisfaction, goals feel pointless, and you can't tell whether you're tired, bored, or something else.
You might recognize some of this:
- Feeling stuck or stagnant, like life is on pause
- Going through the motions without much meaning
- Losing interest in goals that used to matter
- Starting things and not following through
- Comparing yourself to others and feeling behind
- Not knowing what you want, only that this isn't it
Low motivation isn't laziness
Low drive usually has reasons behind it: burnout, a big life change, years of living by other people's expectations, or a gap between who you are inside and how your days are actually spent. Sometimes it overlaps with stress or anxiety. Part of our work is understanding what's going on for you, rather than putting a label on it.
Finding your way back to what matters
I want to help people find the courage to understand themselves, and to bring their inner self into line with their everyday life and routines.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is at the center of this work. ACT helps you get clear on your values — the things that matter most to you — and take small, concrete steps toward them, even before motivation shows up.
- Values work to name what you care about, not what you think you should care about
- Mindfulness-based skills to notice the inner voices that keep you stuck, without obeying them
- Compassion-focused work to replace self-criticism with something that actually helps you move
- Strength-based work to build on what has carried you before
If a recent change set this off, see life transitions therapy.

Questions about therapy for purpose and motivation
Can therapy help if I have no motivation or direction?
Yes. Therapy can help you understand what's draining your drive and reconnect with what matters to you. We'll work toward small, realistic steps rather than a sudden overhaul.
Is it normal to feel lost about my purpose in life?
Yes. Many adults go through stretches of feeling lost, especially during or after a big change. It doesn't mean something is wrong with you, and it's worth talking through.
What is values-based therapy?
Values-based work, a core part of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), helps you identify what matters most to you and use it as a guide for everyday choices.
Free 15-minute consultation
You don't have to have it all figured out right now. Starting a new path takes just one step, and it can feel so much more doable with support. When you're ready, reach out by call, text, or email — I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation, a relaxed chance to share what's on your mind and get a sense for what it could be like working together.
